why should you have your boiler serviced ?

Five reasons why now is a good time to get your boiler serviced Getting your boiler serviced is one of those household tasks that many people overlook and put off, especially if your boiler seems to be working fine. However, it’s really important to service your boiler each year and September is the perfect time to do this as you’re likely to be using your boiler less than you would do during the colder months when you have your heating on. Plus, it may be easier to get an appointment at this time of year and it means your boiler will be ready for winter when it'll be working extra hard.

Here are our top 5 reasons for why you should consider booking an engineer and getting your boiler serviced.

1. Keeps your boiler working as efficiently as possible Boilers of any age need to be serviced regularly to ensure they continue to run efficiently, and it’s recommended that you service your boiler at least once a year. Although it will cost you to have your boiler serviced, (a boiler service typically costs around £60-£120), you could save money in the long term, as regularly servicing a boiler ensures it continues to run as efficiently as possible. Your boiler servicing engineer may also be able to offer tips on using your boiler more efficiently, again helping to you save money on your energy bills.

2. Helps avoid high costs if your boiler breaks down Having an annual boiler service can ensure that any small issues with it are picked up before they become bigger issues, which could result in your boiler breaking down altogether. A broken-down boiler is typically expensive to fix or could mean a new boiler if it can’t be fixed.

3. Maintains the safety of your boiler A faulty boiler could be leaking carbon monoxide into your home and as the symptoms can often be mistaken for other illnesses, this may be something that goes undiscovered. By having an annual boiler service, you can ensure any leakages are caught early and you aren’t putting yourself or your family in unnecessary danger.

4. Ensures your manufacturer’s warranty remains valid Many boilers come with a manufacturer’s warranty and the manufacturer will often require an annual boiler service to ensure this warranty remains valid. So, if your boiler is still under warranty it’s worth a read of the small print to ensure you’re meeting the requirements, so you won’t be caught out if something does go wrong.

5. It’s so simple to arrange and only takes around one hour During your boiler service appointment, the engineer will inspect your boiler and its controls, check the gas pressure is working correctly, test the flue, and check for leaks, damage, or corrosion. A boiler service should take around one hour to complete. When servicing a gas boiler, the engineer will also make sure the boiler is giving off the right amount of gas and not releasing any harmful gases such as carbon monoxide. You'll also be left with a checklist of everything that was tested, along with the results for your records.
